Brunch Detail – Pasion

After I put my smoker together yesterday, I had to ‘season’ it – which is something you should do with any new grill or smoker before you use it to cook food. You season it by setting a fire in it, and let it burn for about an hour or two – as a means of burning off any oils or residues that might still be present from the fabrication of the unit. That way your first meat doesn’t have any nasties in it. So rather than sit around and watch the smoker burn, I decided to catch brunch!

We went to Pasion, (https://www.pasion-restaurant.com/) They have a buffet style brunch, and will cook eggs to order for $17, with $1 mimosas and $2 bloody mary’s. I could tell you it’s on elmwood avenue near Allen, but O.G Buffalonians will know exactly where it is, when I say it’s in the old Cozumel. Still focusing on latin cuisine (latin fusion), the interior has had a full facelift, and is pretty classy. A big switch from the Cozumel days. Not saying that Cozumel was ratty… but…  well…   maybe it was ratty, Ok.. enough with the Rat jokes..

We found out quickly that this was the kind of place that you would want to make reservations for if you wanted to have a table. We sat at the bar, which was fine, the bar staff was accommodating, and fun. You know me, I had to have a Bloody Mary…

It was decent, I think the horseradish overpowered some of the subtle things they were trying to pull off – I heard something about house-made habanero bitters, but I’m immune to heat, so who knows. I enjoyed it regardless. The mimosas came with a fruit juice option, my wife got passion fruit – they seemed pretty dialed in, and popular – as the staff had to make a ‘champagne run’ while we were there – luckily there’s a liquor store in close proximity, no one really even noticed it happened. On to the brunch.

Pretty good! The options were definitely carefully crafted and tasty! often times at a brunch buffet, the options are on the bland side and done that way intentionally to appeal to the masses and allow people to cultivate their own levels of seasoning. Pasion had their offerings dialed in for seasoning, and I really liked having something untraditional for the brunch options. Latin Fusion was definitely happening, and happening well!

That soup above? forget it, I could eat a whole quart of that – coming from the guy who almost threw up on soup the day before at Buffalo Soup Fest – lol!

Couple more bloody marys, a shot, and I was feeling good! (and ready for a nap!) and that’s what I did immediately when I got home – Definitely worth the price of admission, I’d go back.
