2 for 1 post: ‘Swilling and nibblin – and yo Volker’s – don’t ever change

Damn crew, it has been a serious week so far! I was keeping up with this thing, and then lost a couple days there!

Nothing too crazy, but just busy!

Two ‘swillin & nibblin’ comments – I went to Big Ditch on Tuesday for a late lunch with Neal.. There was a new menu item that I would highly recommend to anyone that enjoys drinking beer and eating food that is terrible for you – behold – Loaded Tots from Big Ditch:

Chili made with their signature beer too – pretty good guys, not going to lie. Neal got the Breuben – looked and smelled good, but I was determined to try some new shit. Anyways, Later that evening, it was my buddy Chris’ birthday, and we decided to check out something we don’t usually do – bowling. However, before doing that, we had a couple beers at his place – believe it or not, we had beer from his EBC ‘Drink Tank’ that he procured from Commmunity Beer Works at that comedy show over a week ago – believe it or not, it was perfectly carbonated still! Those drink tanks are no joke!

2nd swilling comment is that yesterday (wed) after the pistol safety class, I went to Gordon Biersch, and had a couple drinks with my buddy Jason, and his lady. Good time! I know Gordon Biersch is kind of a chain, but their beer is very good. I know a local brewery who’s head brewer got their start at a GB – don’t knock it – it is great very well executed (for style) beer, and hey – beers were only $3 that night! yummy!

The other positive thing I have to say about Gordon Biersch is that their food is consistent, which is very hard to say about a lot of restaurants. So many times, you go to a place and love a certain dish – then you go back and have the same dish, and it’s complete trash. Burgers are specifically something that I seem to always get from a restaurant, and seem to be disappointed with frequently. I have had dry burgers that I really should have made a stink over… but I don’t do that. Anyways, about 4 years ago, I went to Gordon Biersch and got the Kobe Burger. I remember thinking ‘damn, this burger is perfect, what a good burger!’ I remember that experience every time I go, but specifically don’t get it again, because I felt certain that it was a fluke. Well, last night I sacked up and got it again..  behold! KOBE BURGER!

So juicy, so perfect…  tasty..  mmmmmmm

Ok, so BOWLING – we went and checked out Volker’s. I had been there a long time ago but barely remembered it. God bless this place.

If you’re from Buffalo and don’t recognize this corner, you’re not from Buffalo. Elmwood and Amherst – this place is a landmark.

This place is the original bowling alley – Everything there feels original down to the lockers.

This place smacks of Buffalo ’66. You owe it to yourself to patronize this place.

And you owe it to yourself to have a pint sized White Russian.

Hell, you can have food there too! All of your Buffalo favorites are there!

$23 for a Triple of wings? that’s a pretty damn good price now-a-days. For sure!  And read it and weep out of towners that used to be in-towners..  ‘Costanzo’s rolls’ – that’s right. you know you miss them.

Chris taking a roll.

We weren’t the other ones there. We had a crew:

Oh and check this out – I know I said it hasn’t been updated in forever, but that’s probably not the case, it just feels like an oldschool bowling alley in there. Everything in this place smacks of OG bowling life. However – OG bowling didn’t have access to this:

BOOM! internet juke box!!!

Plays right on the lanes, roll the ball to your favorite tracks.

I’m not a great bowler – this was my low score of the night:

Chris is loving’ beating me right there..

Now the image that’s the story of my life..  had an average game going on – and then this happened in the 10th frame….

That’s right…  7-10 split on the final frame. straight garbage.

We had a good time –

I always forget how fun bowling is until I go do it.

Get into Volker’s experience the oldschool bowling feel with the newschool juke box and enjoy this Buffalo staple.
