Wednesday in Buffalo? yep – we tear it up.. It was National Margarita Day after all.

I know it’s Sunday and I’m writing a blog about Wednesday. I’m not a full time blogger, so don’t expect things to happen in real time around here – just accept it.

Wednesday night after work, me and 3 other guys I work with went to the Western New York Book Arts Center for a Buffalo Spree sponsored Happy hour. We got to try some Lockhouse spirits, and some beer form Community Beer Works – it was great! Also got to check out some artwork by Edrys Wajed – great line art – very steady hand.

Community beer works was featuring the Whale and Frank, which are both very drinkable, delicious beers. They were offering free tastes, then $5 pints after that. We stuck around and had a few pints for the cause.

Lockhouse was featuring their vodka, hop spirit, coffee liqueur, barrel rested gin, regular gin and cherry blossom infused gin – and you goddamn right I tried all of them and waxed distillation technique with the guy running the tasting. Interesting fact – they do their botanical infusion for their gin in the column of their still, I thought column infusion would have less potency than macerating in barrels for a while, then distilling, but Lockhouse certainly doesn’t have any trouble getting flavor into their gin – that’s for sure!

Actually, now that I look at the picture, it appears that there was one I didn’t try –  the bitters! dammit! I didn’t even notice it !  I wonder what it was all about – something for an old fashioned? or maybe a digestif? Dammit I’m so mad I didn’t try it. I highly suggest you get into the distillery and try all of these things they’ve got going on – great product.

One of the guys got to the party a little late, and when it appeared things were winding down at the Book Arts place, expressed the desire for more beer, so I happily suggested we walk over to Big Ditch for a beer.

Check the waitress/bartender giving me the hairy eyeball, arms folded in this shot – sorry – I just wanted a picture of all the hanging lights lined up! don’t hate!

I had heard they released their Galaxy Red, which is a great IPA. Galaxy Hops are from Australia and impart a tropical citrus quality when used as an aroma hop – Big Ditch Galaxy Red inspired me to get a pound of pellets for a past home brew – such a good hop.

We hung out for a bit, and I was in touch with my buddy Chris – to see if he wanted to meet up for a margarita down at Deep South Taco, which was still within walking distance for me. AFTER ALL – IT WAS NATIONAL MARGARITA DAY!

So of course I walked down to Deep South and had a couple Margaritas.

At this point in the evening, I was starting to feel pretty good! The Margaritas that Deep South was handing out were built for speed, and on special, and damn they were good. My wife started getting JELLY that I was rocking out, so I said No Problem, let’s go to the NEW deep south up by our house, and keep this party rocking. So I gathered her up, and we went to the one up on Hertel Ave!

Both places were slammed – and with Margaritas like they made, shit – I could see why. The Hertel location’s formula was the same formula as downtown – high octane, AND ON TAP – yeah – the guy rimmed the glasses with salt, then ‘bloooop’ poured the margarita straight from the line!

Look at those delightful lime beverages.

Oh man, just looking at them now made my salivary glands go bonkers.

We were both hungry, so we checked out the food menu!

The tacos are priced a little higher than I’m comfortable paying for tacos, but the ingredients and the freshness is worth it, the Nacho Libre platters – killer.

We ordered a bunch of stuff, there was no way we would be able to finish it all, but we were hungry!

We had another round of margaritas while we waited

Then that food came! ohhh boyyyyy!

That picture was taken after I had taken a few whacks at the nacho platter – here’s a couple closeups! loooook!

Crazy fresh ingredients, bomb-ass margaritas, I love this place now, and I am glad they could help me celebrate national margarita day!

Thursday morning….  yup  – it sucked.

the end.
