Lunch at Dinosaur

I rarely get the chance to leave work and enjoy what we like to refer to as an ‘off campus lunch’. The only time I do is when I get taken to a meeting to answer the design related questions, or find myself on an install – which is rare these days. But today was a blue moon opportunity to take advantage of certain circumstances and grab a bite to eat with my coworker Jason. I always feel bad when I leave the office to eat without telling many people, because if it were up to me, everyone would go – but it’s got to be impromptu and quickly executed – it’s just the way off-campuses go.  (sorry Peter, Neal, Andrew, Etc..)

We went and checked out Dinosaur BBQ on Franklin. Dinosaur BBQ got its start as a mobile BBQ stand that got its notoriety serving BBQ at Harley Biker meet-ups and fairs. Eventually, they dropped a brick & mortar in Syracuse, and have since expanded into 8 additional locations in the Northeast. Oldschool New Yorkers will say that the newer locations lack the luster and charm of the original Syracuse establishment, and while that may be true, the Buffalo location provides and interesting atmosphere and a decent product. With a 20-tap bar and a heavy smoke aroma that slaps you in the face when you walk through the door, they’re definitely doing something right.

I chose an original brisket sandwich with some super low-cal sides. Ok, that’s a lie, and I know I screwed my diet up with this choice, but I was super sick today, and I needed some comfort food. Don’t hate on me people!

It is difficult to find Brisket in NY that meets the standard that I have come to know and love from my visits to central Texas, but I will say that the first bite of this sandwich was perfect. Super smoke flavor, the richness and juiciness that you expect from a brisket flooded my mouth, and I was in heaven. The wango tango habanero bbq sauce made the perfect dip for my fries.. I ate the whole friggin thing. sorry not sorry.
