Community Beer Works – Beer Release / Comedy Show

On Friday, after splitting a growler with my coworker Neal, we decided to go check out Community Beer Works. (picked up my wife and my friend Chris too) We heard that there was a special event going on, and there was going to be a release of a special beer – Milkshake IPA. Ok you have my interest! There was also apparently going to be a comedy show – I like comedy, so hell, why not go drink local beer and maybe get a couple laughs?

The extraordinarily profound and chart topping (well, made it to #3), 2003 contemporary R&B masterwork of Kelis’ hot fire “Milkshake” was cranked on repeat over the CBW soundsystem, reminding you why you were there. Big, thick, legible lettering – ‘Milkshake’ on the board… ‘I’ll take a pint’!

It’s possible that my mouth was just blown out from drinking all that WindForge IPA before coming over- but other than having a nice, milky unfiltered look, I had trouble finding vanilla and strawberry notes as they mentioned. I was able to get the strawberry, but no vanilla. My friend and my wife both said it tasted just like a milkshake, Neal also had trouble sensing the ingredients, so maybe we’ll just blame it on the heavy artillery that our tongue was already accosted by. As an IPA though – it was a great beer, very drinkable, very yummy – well balanced.

The turn out was great!

I love when panoramic shots make people’s faces look bizarre. sorry homie!

You can see people sitting down facing the back room of the place – that’s where the comedy was set up!

The event was actually for Planned Parenthood as it turns out – and proceeds were going to them that evening – They made a pretty sizable donation at the end of the night – I apologize for not getting pics of that, I wasn’t sure what was happening until we had already left.

Comedy show was hilarious.

I was kind of stuffed in the corner, but each comic was able to crack me up. There were 4 performers all together, I apologize again – I don’t remember names but I remember getting called out for having a huge beard by a comic who said facial hair should reflect who you are – and I was obviously not a viking, he told the truth with his facial hair – like he looks like he’ll lose whatever job he gets in 3 days. It was a great, intimate show – the guys all did well, I would gladly attend another show.

Lastly, for this evening: My buddy decided he was finally going to get some of that popcorn that they have on the shelves there. I’m not sure how much it cost, but Holy shit was it good. we got the Buffalo Caramel – YO. This stuff was dangerously good. When it first gets in your mouth it tastes like butter and hot sauce. Then it fades into salty caramelly goodness. Again, not sure on cost, but this would make a great gift to any crew that has left Buffalo, but still might want a taste of it.
